Allan Gardens adventure
Posted on 19:20 by kumar
I have not been transported to some tropical paradise, alas - I wish. But to honour my sweetie, who dreamed I had already blogged about this when I really hadn't, I'm going to share yesterday's adventure with you - it was cheap, in a way, but no thrifting happened!
What? Are those bananas? A huge bunch of bananas? Just hanging there??
Yup. Bananas. In scale with me (and part of a model doing a photo shoot) right under 'em. I'm wearing my Italian mohair sweater again, as you can see.
In need of an inexpensive winter blah pick-me-up, a gal pal and I headed to Toronto's downtown to check out, the first time for us both, the historic Allan Garden greenhouses. They're free, open daily, easy to get to - and gorgeous inside.
There's every thing there in the flora and fauna department that you can imagine: 100+ year old trees, flowers, ponds and goldfish, cactii - and yes - bananas on trees, and models standing under them.
... even orchids behind glass.
There's more coming on the adventure front, but since there was no thrifting I'll show you one of my fave vintage coats here, a cashmere baby with warm fur collar (that I flip up, as you see here), picked up for a mere 10 bucks at a Toronto Film Studio Sale (they were going for $60 each but it was a warm day and the seller dropped her prices).
You may just be able to see a pretty gold-tone and blue 'gem' pin I'm wearing on the coat - a 99-cent pick-me-up from last weekend. I find that since I've started blogging about brooches they're on the brain and I'm being more mindful of putting them on!
